CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Studio 9 Dance Academy offers a captivating array of classes and coursework that blend the timeless elegance of classical training with the excitement of contemporary dance. These include the engaging Children's Program Classes, the grace and precision of Ballet and Pointe, the infectious rhythm of Jazz, the emotive expression of Lyrical/Contemporary, the rhythmic beats of Tap, the high-energy moves of Hip Hop, the mastery of TLC (turns, leaps, and conditioning) classes, and more!
Children work through D-A-N-C-E as they progress in age and ability!
All Children's Program Classes will perform in two performances; Winter Wonderland in December + Children's Program Showcase in May/June.
An additional Winter Ballet performance is available for any student in a Children's Program Ballet Class (Navigator, Creator, or Explorer);
sign-up begins September/October and requires additional Saturday rehearsal.
Dreamers (AGES 18 MO. to 2 YRS)
A 30-minute introductory course to music and movement. This class is geared towards toddlers ages 18 months to 2 years and is designed for parents to participate alongside their children. This class is an excellent transition into our Artists Ballet.
Attire Requirement: Any attire dancer and parent can move in allowed.
Artists Ballet (AGES 2 to 3 YRS)
A 45-minute course designed for children who are ready to venture into the classroom independently. The students will learn basic skills of ballet through creative movement in a nurturing environment, while encouraging their enthusiasm for dance.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard and tights, or shirt and shorts, with ballet shoes.
Navigators Ballet/Tap (AGES 3 to 4 YRS)
An hour long course that follows the same model of the Artists Ballet class, with the added element of tap dance.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard and tights, or shirt and shorts, with ballet shoes and tap shoes.
Creators Ballet/Tap (AGES 4 to 5 YRS)
An hour long course that builds upon, and advances beyond, the curriculum from Navigators Ballet/Tap class.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard and tights, or shirt and shorts, with ballet shoes and tap shoes.
Explorers Ballet/Tap/Jazz (Ages 5 TO 6 YRS)
Our most advanced technique level class in our Children’s Program. This level focuses on building on, and advancing beyond, the curriculum from Creators in Ballet/Tap, while adding an introduction to Jazz. Students will move into Level 1/Junior after the completion of this curriculum.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard and tights, or shirt and shorts, with ballet shoes and tap shoes; jazz shoes optional.
Shakers (Ages 3 to 5 YRS)
This introductory hip hop class follows current music trends seen in movies and music videos. Class includes conditioning and warm-up, simplified breakdown of each dance step, skill combinations and choreography. All moves and music are age appropriate and level specific.
Attire Requirement: Any athletic wear dancer can move in and tennis shoes.
Breakers (Ages 5 to 6 yrs)
This hip hop class is our most advanced hip hop in the Children's Program and builds upon, and advances beyond, the curriculum from Shakers Hip Hop class.
Attire Requirement: Any athletic wear dancer can move in, and tennis shoes.
Ballet I – (Ages 6 to 8 YRS)
This class focuses on extended barre work, increased demi pointe work, strengthening and stretching and ballet terminology. Ballet I is required one time per week. Attire Requirement: Light Pink Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Ballet II –
A continuation of Ballet I, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken twice per week.
Attire Requirement: Light Blue Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Ballet III –
A continuation of Ballet II, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken twice per week. This class is geared towards the intermediate student and focuses on longer barre work, more intricate center combinations, and strengthening exercises preparing dancers for pointe work.
Attire Requirement: Light Purple Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Ballet IV –
A continuation of Ballet III, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken three times per week. This class focuses on technical proficiency, strength, and musicality. Pre-Pointe and en pointe are included at this level.
Attire Requirement: Forest Green Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Ballet V –
A continuation of Ballet IV, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken three times per week. This is a more advanced level of ballet and is for the dedicated dancer and performer. Pointe work is included at this level.
Attire Requirement: Navy Blue Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Ballet VI (A) + (B) –
A continuation of Ballet V, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken three times per week. This is Studio 9's second most advanced level of ballet and is for the dedicated dancer and performer. Pointe work is included at this level.
Attire Requirement: Burgundy Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Elite Ballet –
A continuation of Ballet VI, this class is an hour long that is required to be taken three times per week. This is Studio 9's most advanced level of ballet and is for the dedicated dancer and performer. Pointe work is included at this level.
Attire Requirement: Black Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Teen/Adult Ballet –
A course geared towards the beginner/intermediate dancer. It is open to students and adults who want to take ballet without a serious commitment.
Attire Requirement: Any Color Leotard, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes or White Shirt, Black Tights/Pants, and Black Shoes
Jazz
This class focuses on stylized movement through improvement of flexibility and technique, strength, turns and leaps and jazz choreography. It also emphasizes musicality and body alignment. Jazz classes are offered to students age 5 and older, and students will be evaluated and placed in an appropriate Jazz Level for their ability. Students are highly recommended to be concurrently enrolled in a ballet class.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard or shirt with leggings or shorts and jazz shoes.
Lyrical/Contemporary
This style of class(es) is a combination of ballet and jazz that challenges dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. It includes intricate, highly technical, and naturalistic moves. Lyrical/Contemporary classes are offered to students in levels 2+ and has a requirement of concurrent enrollment in a ballet class.
Attire Requirement: Any color leotard or shirt with leggings or shorts and half shoes.
Hip Hop
This style of class follows current music trends seen in movies, music videos, and television. This class is high-energy and fun for both boys and girls who want to learn some Old School style influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Classes include conditioning and warm-up, simplified break-down of each dance step, skill combinations and choreography. All moves and music are age appropriate and level specific. Please Note: Junior Hip Hop will perform in our longer year-end Showcase. For students ages 5-6, Breakers hip hop in our Children's Program is recommended.
Attire Requirement: Anything that dancers can move easily in and tennis shoes.
SS (Strength & Stretch)
Strength & Stretch class focuses on dancer’s core strength and flexibility, along with improving overall mobility of dancers. It is designed for dancers to increase flexibility and tone core muscles to improve technique and decrease the likelihood of injury. It also includes various components of pilates, yoga, cardio workouts, calisthenics, and essential nutrition for dancers.
Tap
This style of class studies a percussive style of dance focusing on different rhythm patterns and combinations. Combinations involve intricate footwork with an emphasis placed on musicality, syncopation and occasional improvisation. This class is offered in various levels for students age 5 to adult.
Attire Requirement: Anything that dancers can move easily in and black tap shoes.
Acro
Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. Attire Requirement: Any color leotard or shirt with leggings or shorts and bare feet.
